Sailing
Tour des ports de la Manche
Jersey welcomes French sport events such as le Tour des Ports de la Manche, the biggest regatta in Normandy. Each summer, between 500 and 600 French, British and Channel Islands sailors and almost a hundred ships gather to sail along the coasts of Normandy and the Channel Islands. It is one of the biggest nautical events in the Channel Islands! https://tourdesports50.fr/
Trophée des Isles
Equally, the Trophée des Isles is an annual sailing regatta weekend held between Jersey’s St Catherine’s Sailing Club and sailing clubs of St Malo and Guernsey for young people under 21. The event is hosted on an alternating basis between the three clubs and provides an opportunity for a great competition and cultural exchange.
Rugby
The annual Veterans Tournament at St Peter in Jersey has welcomed French Rugby Clubs since 1997. The Super Frelons team from Le Rheu in Brittany has participated to the event for more than 20 years and has been joined by other Breton teams such as Les Coquillarts from Saint-Brieuc or the XV et demi from Bruz.
Multisports tournament
Another sport event that used to gather Jersey and French counterparts is the multisport tournament between Jersey and la Manche, a sporting exchange that started in 2012. First comprising 3 sports (football, tennis, table tennis), the tournament developed and later also included rugby, petanque, and adapted football.
Each year, over 200 children from Jersey and la Manche participated in this 2-day event taking place alternatively in Jersey and in La Manche.
Not only was this a fantastic sporting opportunity for children but also an opportunity to improve their language skills and make friendships.
The last event took place in 2019 before Covid-19 broke in and reinvigorate this tournament in the future is currently being explored.
